A teenager was bitten by a crocodile while being evacuated from floods in Australia. The 17-year-old boy was bitten "on the back of his leg" while leaving a remote community, reports "BBC".

The Australian Defense Force has been called in to help remote areas affected by flooding after heavy rainfall hit the country's north.

The government says about 700 people have been evacuated from Kalkarinji, about 770km south of Darwin, after the Victoria River burst its banks.

"The Ministry of Defense has given us three large planes and they are working to get the evacuees to Katherine," officials said.

The territory has declared a state of emergency in four remote areas. Emergency Controller Daniel Bacon said roads to a number of remote communities remained cut off and urged people to stay away.
