My 1 + 5: Selected by Goce Cvetanovski, "Clockwork Orange" by Stanley Kubrick
For my best film of all time, depending on the current mood, there are always three films in competition from the same director, the unique Stanley Kubrick. Each of his shots is a small masterpiece in itself. Each of his films is a symphony of perfection.
I decided on Clockwork Orange because I have seen it an incredible number of times. Because it is one of the reasons why I decided on a directing career. Because it plays with the feelings of the viewer, it makes us sympathize with the antagonist who is also the protagonist, and raises fundamental questions about human freedom of choice and the difference between good and evil.
Clockwork Orange is a retrofuturistic cyber punk film that explores the nature of the human soul.
From the very first shot, Kubrick mesmerized me and drew me into his unusual world. I could not separate anything special, because everything in the movie is perfect for me. From the way he combines music with the image, Kubrick's "one-point perspective", the ingenious performance of all the actors, the striking costume and interior design, the black humor, the way he tells the story. Every time I watch the movie, I have the impression that I know it by heart, but at the same time I enjoy it in a different way each time.
Other than that, I have no rational explanation for why I adore Kubrick and his filmography.
Love is not explained, it is simply felt and lived. Watch movies!
