MFA on the case of the Kosovo president: All necessary measures will be taken to avoid similar situations in the future
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of North Macedonia, after the protest note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Kosovo, in which a full explanation is requested regarding the event at the Skopje Airport with the President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, requested information from the competent institutions and after the analysis will take measures based on the collected data, in order, as the Ministry announced, to avoid such situations in the future.
The Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Kosovo maintain positive and constructive bilateral relations and cooperation, without open questions and with honest and continuous dialogue at all levels and in all areas. In this context, we express our regret for the misunderstandings that occurred during yesterday's visit of the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, to the international airport in Skopje, according to the Ministry's announcement.
From there, they note that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of the Republic of North Macedonia has already requested information from all competent institutions regarding yesterday's event.
After an adequate analysis of the collected data is done in direct cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, all necessary activities and measures will be taken, with the main goal of avoiding such or similar occurrences and situations in the future, the reaction of the Ministry states.
The Macedonian Ministry of the Interior announced on Thursday evening that the security of the Speaker of the Assembly Afrim Gashi threatened TAV employees who asked the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, to leave her phone in order to go through the border control at the Skopje International Airport. As the Ministry of the Interior announced, while the president of Kosovo was going through border control, at the moment when she was asked to let her phone pass through the scanner, one person from her security was pulled away by the TAV employee, in order for her to pass without a scanned phone and hand luggage. But then, nevertheless, the luggage was returned and passed through a scanner.
After half an hour, a person from the security of the President of the Assembly Gashi (police officer) came with two other people (police officers) and started threatening the TAV employees and asking who caused a problem to the president. At the same time, a police officer employed at the border crossing was also shot, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced, adding that the Department for Internal Control, Criminal Investigations and Professional Standards was immediately notified, and in coordination with the PSO for GOKK, measures are being taken to clear up the case, after which appropriate submissions will be submitted. .
TAV Macedonia announced that the Security department of TAV Macedonia acted within its powers and conducted a standard check of the President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani Sadriu and her luggage at the security check point in the VIP lounge, which did not endanger aviation safety and passenger safety. From there, they categorically reject the allegations that their employee from the security department tried to take the phone of the Kosovo president during the examination in the VIP lounge of the Skopje International Airport.
The office of the President of the Assembly of North Macedonia, Afrim Gashi, denied on Thursday through a statement any involvement of members of his personal security in today's incident at the Skopje airport, which, they say, was reported by certain media. Gashi, on the other hand, said in a statement to the media yesterday that "he intervened to calm the situation, to avoid a diplomatic incident, and I think that everything ended as it should." He says that if someone has exceeded his authority, he will certainly have to answer.
Yesterday, the Presidency of the Republic of Kosovo expressed indignation at the "unacceptable statements of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of North Macedonia" as well as at the "propaganda that is developing against the Republic of Kosovo" after the incident with the President Vjosa Osmani at the Skopje airport. In the announcement on the occasion of the incident, it is stated that Osmani only refused to give her phone for scanning, which she uses as head of state for official communications and national security issues.
