The Macedonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacts to the declaration adopted by the Bulgarian National Assembly on the last day of its work on the alleged "escalation of aggressive anti-Bulgarian activities in the Republic of North Macedonia" and says that it does not correspond to the agreed policy of promoting mutual relations through mutual respect and respect and indicates the absence of will for its implementation.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, given the timing of the adoption of the declaration, it can only go in favor of the provocateurs whose goal is to cause political activities that negatively affect the relations between the two countries, thereby undermining the efforts to return to the constructive path and care of partnership relations.

"Any act of provocation from any side, accidental or intentional, is currently becoming part of the scenarios in support of the escalation of the situation, and as such we consider it to be in contradiction with the declared commitment to return the diplomatic agenda to where it belongs, in the diplomacy of the two countries", reads the reaction from the MFA.

As for the content of the declaration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarifies that in the past period, through specific projects and activities, North Macedonia has shown that it is dedicated to the implementation of the Treaty of Friendship between the two countries.

"The allegations about the existence of systemic problems with the rights and security of the ethnic Bulgarians in North Macedonia completely contradict the institutionally established facts from relevant international institutions that monitor the implementation of human rights and the rights of all ethnic communities in North Macedonia, including the Bulgarian one" , is added to the reaction.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminds that it has pointed out on several occasions that the Law on Foundations and Associations is not directed against the association of any ethnic community, but against the principle of citizens' associations bearing the names of controversial figures who represent a provocation not only for ethnic Macedonians, but also for all citizens who live in North Macedonia.

"In the same context, there is no justified basis or serious argument to connect the work of the historical commission with the amendments to the Law on Associations and Foundations." It will continue its work based on scientifically argued and confirmed facts and has no point of contact with the conditions under which citizens' associations and foundations are formed and function," said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It is also stated that the Ministry remains of the position that in the case of the physical attack on the Macedonian citizen Hristijan Pendikov in Ohrid, the institutions of the system reacted appropriately, the perpetrators were detained, the investigation is ongoing, and through public political activities the event was condemned by the highest representatives of the state , such as the President, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. At the same time, Minister Osmani also made an urgent extraordinary visit to Sofia to visit the injured Pendikov, thus expressing the state's intention to care for all its citizens equally in a political sense.

"Therefore, we consider the numerous statements about this case, now translated into the content of the Declaration, to be exaggerated and unfounded, which in no way correspond to reality," added the MFA.

From there, they once again call for restraint from further decisions and actions that seriously harm the relations between the two countries and their citizens, precisely in the spirit of European values and freedoms.
