The Ministry of Foreign Affairs sends a public reaction and condemnation for, as it states in a statement, yesterday's expression of hate speech that it could observe during the football match between the representatives of North Macedonia and Bulgaria.

- Sports events represent the highest expression of the principles of fair relations, mutual respect and competition in the spirit of sportsmanship. The misuse of these events to spread hatred and intolerance is the essential opposite of their basic idea, the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states.

The Ministry adds that in the future, North Macedonia and Bulgaria will continue to actively work on improving mutual relations, as allied countries in NATO, future partners in the European Union, and above all, good neighbors.

Last night, before the start of the match at the "Todor Proeski" National Arena, in which the Macedonian national football team was defeated by the Bulgarian national team, the anthem of Bulgaria was whistled from start to finish.

After the match the Bulgarian representative Valentin Antov said that such booing motivated his national team during the match.
