Majority of Bulgarians support increasing defense spending, says NATO's latest study

According to 83 percent of Bulgarian citizens, the country should spend more on defense, while only eight percent have the opposite opinion, and nine percent cannot give a percentage, data from a NATO study, included in the annual report on the alliance's activities presented today, showed.

According to the report, last year Bulgaria provided defense funds equal to 1,54 percent of GDP. The report states that so far only seven countries of the alliance meet the goal of spending reaching two percent of GDP. Bulgaria meets the goal set by NATO for at least a 20 percent share of equipment costs from the total national defense budget.

Among the citizens of the member countries of the Alliance, an increase in support for NATO by eight percent can be observed in the last year.
