Through the stores we found confused shoppers, who were mainly looking to buy the cheapest dairy product, and the shelves that said there was a discount were almost empty.

New prices are set again in the markets, and dairy products caused the biggest surprise. The prices of cow's cheese range from 320 to 360 denars per kilogram, the prices of mixed - cow and sheep cheese are around 400 denars, and the prices of cow's cheese from domestic producers are from 380 to 500 denars. These prices were 30 percent lower last year.

What is even more worrisome is that dairy producers do not see an abatement in the rising price trend.

George Petrushev, president of the Milk Production, Purchase and Processing Group, says that the current prices are solely the result of the increase in input costs and that he does not believe that any company in the dairy industry will see an increase in profits.

- Now we are chasing our own shadow with the prices. All the colleagues I have spoken to have rising costs – all input costs have increased, from the prices of the raw milk we buy to the energy prices. Unfortunately, I also expect further price growth. I could not bid with percentages, because no one can, but it is clear that there will be further growth in the price of electricity. We hope, but I emphasize "we hope", that the price of fodder will calm down after the agreement between Russia and Ukraine on the export of grain. This should stabilize the prices on the stock exchanges, and it should affect the price of fodder in the region, from where we buy it - Petrushev told "Sloboden Pechat".

He says that now milk is paid more expensively, and that is expected because the costs of the livestock farmers have increased.

- The purchase price of milk has increased compared to last year by about 30 percent, but of course it also depends on the quality of the milk - says Petrushev.

The prices of other products also increased. Pork also became more expensive by 20 percent. The price of this product was among those that kept the price low, but already the pork ribs are around 300 denars, although until recently you could find a mole at that price.

The Union of Trade Unions calculated that the minimum union basket for the survival of a family of four is MKD 39.710 and has increased by MKD 5.498 compared to June 2021.
