A mysterious object found at "North Stream" - will it explain who attacked the Russian gas pipeline?

The Danish Energy Agency has invited the Swiss company Nord Stream 2 AG to participate in the operation to retrieve an unknown object that was found next to the damaged Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea.
"The facility did not pose an immediate security threat, but they decided to extract it with the help of the national army," the Danish authorities said.
The agency is awaiting a response from Nord Stream 2, which carries one of two Russian gas pipelines damaged in the explosions last September, to a request to help identify the facility.
Bloomberg reported that it could be a smoke buoy, a device to send signals in case of danger.
By the way, the authorities in Denmark published a photo of the building. It is a cylindrical object about 40 centimeters high, and according to the photo it is located next to the pipe.
