The United Nations mission has arrived in Nagorno-Karabakh, the spokesperson of the Azerbaijani presidency said. The mission arrived early on October 1 to assess the humanitarian needs of the region.

This is the first time in about 30 years that the UN has gained access to the region.

Ethnic Armenians, who have controlled Nagorno-Karabakh for three decades, agreed to disarm and dissolve their government after an Azerbaijani offensive last week.

Armenia says more than 100 people have fled Nagorno-Karabakh since Azerbaijan seized the breakaway territory in a lightning offensive just over a week ago.
