Young Schumacher today had the chance to drive the Mercedes car used in Formula 1 races for the first time this season, ten years after his famous father made his last drive for the team.

Mick Schumacher made his Mercedes test debut today, just over 10 years since his father's last test drive with the team.

The former Haas driver joined Mercedes in a reserve role this year. He drove at the Circuit de Catalunya today to test the Pirelli tires under development for 2024. This is Mick's first time driving the Mercedes W1 F14 car.

Schumacher drove on the second day of the test, taking over driving duties from George Russell who tested the tires yesterday. Ferrari were also in action at the track today, with Carlos Sainz taking over from Charles Leclerc who drove on day one.

Michael Schumacher had a long history with Mercedes. Among other things, he was part of their junior driver development program. At the end of his F1 career, Schumacher raced for Mercedes from 2010 to 2012, the year after that he did several promotional races for the team.

His last drive was in May 2013, when he did a demonstration lap of the Nürburgring in the 2011 Mercedes. Seven months later he suffered serious brain injuries in a skiing accident.
