Mickoski and Pendarovski are not above the courts

"Political interference in court proceedings does not resolve court cases, but only independent and impartial court proceedings," Margarita Caca Nikolovska, a former judge at the Strasbourg Court of Human Rights, told Sloboden Pecat.

A meeting between the head of state Stevo Pendarovski and the leader of VMRO-DPMNE Hristijan Mickoski is to be held tomorrow at 15 pm in the presidential villa in Vodno. According to the announcements, one of the topics will be the repetition of the trial for April 27, which Mickoski insists on. Pendarovski, on the other hand, on the anniversary of the so-called "Bloody Thursday" in "Only interview" on TV Kanal 5 said that the people who entered the Parliament are not terrorists and those who physically attacked people should be held accountable for physical attack, as was the case for Zijadin Sela and Radmila Sekerinska, and that for organizing such an event, 18 years in prison is a lot.

The President's Office says that the meeting is at the request of the opposition leader, and when asked by "Free Press" whether the topic will be a possible repetition of the trial on April 27, they answered briefly "more current topics will be discussed".

- It is good that after nine months of non-communication, communication is established between the opposition and the institution of the President of the Republic of Northern Macedonia, which can be in the direction of a more productive political dialogue. - President Pendarovski told "Deutsche Welle".

Pendarovski remains on the formulation that the people who stormed the Parliament on April 27, 2017 are not terrorists, but, according to him, that does not mean that they deserve an amnesty for the violence.

- It was an unprecedented case for the collapse of democracy and the constitutional order. The perpetrators of that crime do not deserve pardon, and the only way to renew the process is only if new evidence emerges, which was not known at the time of the trial. - said President Pendarovski.

Mickoski said that at the meeting with Pendarovski he does not intend to ask for amnesty for the convicts for April 27.

- At the meeting with Pendarovski, I will ask them to be tried for what they did, but there was no terrorism. Give them a fair chance to be blamed for what they did. I am not seeking amnesty - Mickoski said at a meeting with journalists.

Former judge at the Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, Margarita Caca Nikolovska, for "Free Press" says that political intervention in court proceedings does not solve court problems, but only with independent and impartial court proceedings.

- The courts will judge and two politicians will come, sit down and say, now the procedure should be repeated. What is that legal certainty? I sympathize with the defendants, but in every country there must be order. If a mistake is made, it should be said, and then it should be determined through the national courts. There are also international courts. The issue of terrorism could also be heard before the European Court of Human Rights. However, the final outcome of the procedure has to be awaited. Repetition may occur, but only if the legal requirements are met. One of the circumstances is new evidence - says Caca Nikolovska.
