With or without European money, the construction of the fence near Evros will be completed, the Greek Prime Minister said Kyriakos Mitsotakis during his visit today to an Athenian settlement.

Mitsotakis referred to the construction of the fence on the Greek-Turkish land border, because, as he said, an MEP from SYRIZA supported an amendment in the EP requesting the European Commission not to finance the construction.

The MEP from SYRIZA and Vice-President of the European Parliament Dimitris Papadimoulis announced yesterday that after the amendment voted by several parties, the EP said a "loud "no" to the attempt of certain European governments, including Greece, Austria and Italy, to use European funds for construction on fences at the external borders of the Union".

The Greek Prime Minister, as he himself announced, will be in the Evros area tomorrow and will sign the agreement for the extension of the fence.

The Minister of Civil Protection of Greece, Takis Theodorikakos, in an interview with "Sky" television, this morning emphasized that the contract is for the construction of an additional 35 kilometers and costs 100 million euros, an amount already provided for in the state budget.

Theodorikakos emphasized that the completion of the construction of the 140-kilometer fence is a "clear decision of the prime minister" and explained that 37,5 kilometers have already been completed.
