The Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis today, three weeks after the train tragedy that sparked protests against his government, announced that a general election would be held in May, without giving an exact date.

"I can say with certainty that the elections will be held in May," said Mitsotakis, leader of the conservative New Democracy, in an interview with private television "Alfa".

A head-on collision between the trains on February 28 killed 57 people, sparking a wave of anti-government unrest.
