Mickoski leaves for the US for Donald Trump's inauguration

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski is expected to leave for the United States today, where he will attend the inauguration of the newly elected US President Donald Trump in Washington on January 20. According to a government statement, Mickoski will also attend the ceremony titled "Voices of Freedom" on January 20, which will be held after the inauguration, organized by the companies Trump Media and Rumple.

It has been announced that during his stay in Washington, the Macedonian Prime Minister will meet with Howard Lutnick, co-chair of President Donald Trump's transition team and Secretary of Commerce, Devin Nunes, chairman of Trump's intelligence advisory body and CEO of Trump Media Corporation, and with Rumble CEO Chris Pawlowski. The government indicates that more meetings are possible.

Prime Minister Mickoski first announced his visit to the United States and attendance at Trump's inauguration in a New Year's interview with MIA. At that time, he said that he would be leaving for a visit to the United States on January 18, two days before the inauguration of the newly elected US President Trump.

– In addition to Brussels, Washington is an extremely important place for us as a state and for us as a government. I expect to attract attention so that the US looks at the Balkans with a different lens. We must first attract attention regionally – for Washington to look at us as a region, and not as an individual in that region. Yes – an important individual, a natural crossroads, the heart of the Balkans, but, nevertheless, if we look at the Balkans as a whole, then through the lens of Washington we can see things more beautifully and I want to present all of that there, what are the advantages that we as a small, beautiful country in the heart of the Balkans offer, but also what are the challenges for the region – said Mickoski in the interview.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski, in an appearance on Top Tema this week, stated that he will be part of the delegation that Prime Minister Mickoski will lead at Trump's inauguration in Washington, an act that he assessed as very significant for our country.

– The arrival of a new US administration is definitely a significant event for us. Mickoski will lead our delegation there, and together with him we will be part of many formal and informal activities, as well as the inauguration itself. Let us affirm our positions with the incoming administration, let us continue to cultivate those good and personal relations between the Prime Minister, myself and other stakeholders in the Government. Let us also confirm the continuity that we expect from American foreign policy, in terms of issues related to the region, the commitment to European integration, to the NATO Alliance, and everything that is important to us from the point of view of European and regional security and issues that concern us the most as a country – said Mucunski, in a guest appearance on Top Tema on Telma Television.

He assessed that there is a need to strengthen bilateral trade relations with the United States not only in the area of investments, but also in the import-export portfolio of the country. In this area, he believes that with the new administration, we can make a positive shift, taking into account, he says, the closeness of Prime Minister Mickoski with the Minister of Trade, Lutnik, who visited the country a few months ago.

– In the political-security aspect that is important to us, we need focus and additional stimulus from the United States to understand the challenges facing the region. Without underestimating that there has been no focus so far, I believe that now the relations that we have as a Government due to the individuals who are appointed to certain high positions or who we expect to be appointed to those positions in the US State Department should strengthen that focus towards our region. We have a serious advantage here and we should know how to use it. We as a country have a historical position in the incoming administration, but the skill is to attract attention in order to get the deserved focus that we as a country and region deserve. We have issues that are of a serious economic, political and security nature – underlined Minister Mucunski.

This will be the second inauguration of Donald Trump, who will be the 47th president of the United States. The inauguration at the Capitol is expected to be attended by numerous presidents and prime ministers, as well as heads of world organizations. Trump's first presidential term was from January 20, 2017 to January 20, 2021.
