The leader of the opposition VMRO-DPMNE, Hristijan Mickoski, accuses the Government of the economic and energy fiasco and reiterates that companies and citizens need help.

In a post on Facebook, Mickoski writes today that the Macedonian economy pays the eighth most expensive electricity in Europe and that SDSM has increased the price by 2,5 times in five years.

- In the first half of 2022, the Macedonian economy pays the eighth most expensive electricity in Europe according to Eurostat and the State Statistics Office. It is untrue that the Government cares about the economy. It is untrue that the Government is helping more than 72.000 companies. According to the Macedonian Bureau of Statistics, companies that annually consume between 500 and 2.000 MWh of electricity, and that is the majority of those 72.000 companies that the Government claims to help, pay the eighth most expensive electricity in Europe. Namely, according to the report of the Macedonian Bureau of Statistics, those companies pay 10,391 den/kwh (Figure 2) or it is equal to €168,64/MWh, Mickoski states.

Referring to data from Eurostat for the second half of the year, he points out that companies in the region pay much cheaper electricity than Macedonian companies, i.e. the price in Serbia is €89,3/MWh, in BiH €71,4/MWh, in Turkey €117,1 /MWh, in Kosovo €65,9/MWh, in Croatia €141/MWh, and in Slovenia €143,5/MWh.

Mickoski claims that during the period when he was the general director of ELEM, domestic companies paid the fourth cheapest electricity in Europe.

- A little comparison, because the Government of SDSM wants to compare with the period when I was an advisor to the President of the Government (from April 2015 to June/July 2017) and general director of ELEM (from September 2016 to August 2017) then let's do it that comparison. Namely, in the first half of 2017, Macedonian companies paid the fourth cheapest electricity in Europe at a price of €69,5/MWh, and in the first half of 2022, the eighth most expensive electricity in Europe at a price of €168,64/MWh. In five years, the SDSM government increased the price of electricity for Macedonian companies by almost 2,5 times, Mickoski writes.

He says that citizens and companies need help and that it is not all about the crisis, but also about knowledge.

- Economic and energy fiasco of the SDSM government. This is not the time for politics, it takes knowledge, courage and very honest work. Citizens and companies need help. Every closed company means lost jobs and families in limbo. It's not just about the crisis, it's about knowledge..., says Mickoski.

The day before yesterday, he presented a plan for dealing with the energy crisis to Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski. VMRO-DPMNE agreed with Kovacevski to deliver its contacts for the procurement of cheaper energy to the Minister of Economy Kreshnik Bekteshi, which according to the opposition party was done.

SDSM: Mickoski did not build a single hydropower plant for the state, but that's why he built one for himself

Today, the ruling SDSM sent a reaction to expressed views of Hristijan Mickoski.

- As the director of ESM, Hristijan Mickoski did not build a single new hydropower plant or a single new energy capacity during his tenure, and the profit of the then ELEM was spent on financing paradise gardens. But that's why Mickoski, during the period when he was an energy adviser in the Government, built his own hydroelectric plant, while the price of electricity doubled, without any world economic or energy crisis. Mickoski received 33 thousand square meters from the state, and today it does not provide electricity to the citizens, at a time of the world's biggest energy crisis, when every energy capacity is essential. It is shameful that Mickoski compares periods of normal functioning of the world and a period of post-pandemic, energy and economic crisis that shakes the whole world. If he is so concerned about the energy situation, let Mickoski provide electricity to the citizens and call on the MPs to give up blocking important laws in the Parliament, responds SDSM.
