The Greece-Turkey Joint Economic Committee held a meeting after an 11-year break
The Greece-Turkey Joint Economic Committee, after a break of over 11 years, held its fifth meeting today in Athens, and the chairmen of the committee, Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Costas Francoianis and Turkish Deputy Trade Minister Mustafa Tuzju, signed a protocol and discussed a number of topics of mutual interest, said the MIA correspondent from Athens.
In a joint declaration, the heads of delegations expressed satisfaction with the reactivation of the committee, whose last meeting was held in October 2010.
Bilateral trade, investment initiatives and encouraging businesses to develop joint initiatives in both countries; strengthening energy cooperation; additional cooperation in environmental protection, waste management, quality and adequacy of water resources and climate change issues; cooperation in road, rail, sea and air transport; Strengthening and diversification of trade in agri-food products and resumption of bilateral cooperation in the field of research and technology were the topics discussed at the meeting.
"After the fifth session of the Joint Economic Committee, both sides expressed their commitment to continue working to make progress on the topics included in the positive agenda, with an emphasis on promoting economic cooperation and trade between the two countries," the joint declaration said.
The meeting was scheduled to be attended by the Minister of Tourism of Turkey, but due to the storm in Athens he failed to land and returned.
