The International Criminal Court has sent a team of 42 investigators to Ukraine
International Criminal Court (ICC) sent a team of 42 experts to Ukraine to investigate possible war crimes committed in the country, the DPA reported.
It is the largest team of investigators sent by the ICC, the chief prosecutor announced today in The Hague Karim Khan.
The team includes investigators and forensics, some of whom were provided by the Netherlands, according to the prosecution.
Experts should interview witnesses, provide and analyze evidence, and support national investigators in providing evidence.
In addition, the team of experts will also work together with French forensic experts already in Ukraine. The work of all those involved in the conflict area must be effectively coordinated, the prosecution said.
Following the Russian invasion, the ICC has already opened investigations into alleged war crimes. The Hague-based court is prosecuting individual perpetrators of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
Russia does not recognize the court, adds DPA.
Ukraine, however, has explicitly acknowledged the court's jurisdiction over its territory.
