The First Children's Embassy in the World "Megjashi" announced that it has sent a request to the Government and the Commission for Infectious Diseases in order, as they say, to reconsider the decision to start the second semester with the physical presence of students.

"Megjashi" points out that they organized public debate on the topic "The best interest for children - for and against wearing masks and testing in schools", broadcast on social networks on January 27, to which, in addition to the media, the entire public was invited. They discussed at the debate Dr. Mimi Kimovska Hristov from the University Clinic for Pediatrics, Dr. Zlate Mehmedovic from the Health Center Skopje, Dr. Besnik Zeqiri from the Institute for Lung Diseases in Children, prof. Dr. Nikola Panovski from the Medical Faculty at UKIM and Ana Poprizova, school psychologist.

- Part of the conclusions from yesterday's debate states that the number of sick children who reported to the Institute for Lung Diseases in the period end of December 2021 - beginning of the second half of January has doubled from the usual number during the peak of the previous waves . Given the current state of coronavirus disease, all panelists agreed that it was necessary to consider whether starting physical presence classes is the most appropriate way to continue teaching or whether it is better to start at least two weeks later or online. The views of the majority of panelists about wearing masks is that they should be worn indoors, and all are opposed to the mandatory wearing of masks outdoors and that it is desirable to do tests once a week in schools, say the organization.

Therefore, they propose to organize online classes at least in the first two weeks of the second semester.

"We firmly believe that this decision should be reconsidered in order to start the semester with online teaching, at least for two weeks from February, and then to decide again for a possible extension for a certain period, following the current epidemiological situation. Among other things, we think it is good for the Government to think about reacting quickly and providing all primary and secondary schools with fast tests, as many countries have been practicing for a long time. We believe that the private sector (especially the pharmaceutical sector) could also meet and protect public or collective health if addressed by the Government. "We sincerely believe that you will make the right decision that is in the best interest of the children," reads the request from "Megjashi".
