In the first episode of her podcast Archetype, Megan Markle hosted her close friend, the tennis player Serena Williams, and spoke candidly about the shocking situation she experienced in Africa in 2019.

"I don't remember ever personally feeling a negative connotation behind the word 'ambitious' until I started dating my now-husband," Markle said in the premiere episode of her podcast.

Her sentiments on the subject of double standards were echoed by Williams, who revealed what she herself faced during her tennis career, which she decided to say goodbye to earlier this month.

In the conversation with Williams, Meghan revealed a previously unknown situation that happened in 2019 when she arrived in Africa with Prince Harry and Archie.

“When we went on tour in South Africa, we landed with Archie. He was about four and a half months old. As soon as we landed, we had to leave him at the apartment unit where we were staying. We had intended to get him ready for bed, but immediately left for an official engagement in Niyang City, where I gave a speech to women and girls. That was over and we got in the car when they said, "There's a fire at the residence." I asked them what happened and they said there was a fire in the baby's room," Megan revealed on her podcast.

When they finally arrived at the accommodation, their nanny Lauren greeted them in tears.

"She should have let Archie sleep and she just said, 'I'm going downstairs to eat.' While she was going downstairs, the heater in the children's room turned on. There were no smoke detectors. "Someone accidentally smelled smoke in the hallway and went in, the fire was put out," Markle said.

Although she was extremely shaken by the event, she had to continue to carry out her royal duties with her husband, Prince Harry.

"I said: - This doesn't make sense. Can you tell people what happened? The focus ended up being on how everything looks, not how we feel after it all. Part of humanizing and breaking through these labels, archetypes, and boxes we're put in is having some understanding of the behind-the-scenes moments that people may not be aware of, and we have to give each other a break. "Because we are who we are, we had to leave our child," Megan said.
