Mejiti urged the municipalities to apply: There are still 50 million euros available from the EIB
The First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning, Izet Majiti, together with the Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and the Director of the European Investment Bank, Gabriel Bjorn, held an informative meeting with 58 mayors, who were informed about the financial agreement in the amount of 50 million euros. funds provided through the European Investment Bank (EIB), which are awarded by the Government through the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning.
Mejiti said that the meeting was aimed at strengthening and improving the efficiency and coordination in the use of the funds intended for "Improving the water infrastructure of the municipalities in North Macedonia", provided by the European Investment Bank and the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, and which will be allocated through the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, as non-refundable funds of the municipalities.
"With the additional 50 million euros, we are taking another step forward to strengthen and improve the living conditions of all citizens of our country, without exception. As we did last time, with the 100 million euros, we are not advocating that they go to specific municipalities, but to be distributed to all local governments," said Mejiti, adding that so far the funds have not been used and have not been distributed among the municipalities. , but the process has already started and after this government took office, 15 percent of the value of the assets has been realized. This allowed us to start the procedures for the realization of these grant funds with the intensive realization of the municipal projects.
As informed by Mejiti, the Republic of North Macedonia returns the funds from the central budget, and they will be distributed according to methodology and are non-refundable subsidies from the Government to the municipalities.
"The projects for water infrastructure in the municipalities that are financed by the European Investment Bank refer to water supply systems, fecal and atmospheric sewage, drinking water and waste water treatment, as well as flood protection," First Vice Prime Minister Majiti told the media.
Majiti said that the team of the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning and the Project Implementation Unit are also working on the control of the project documentation sent by the municipalities, as well as on the preparation of the procurement documentation for the implementation of the projects.
So far, a total of 9 projects with a total value of 7,33 million euros have been approved by the European Investment Bank, of which the EIB finances 6,56 million euros.
