Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev made an unannounced visit to Beijing where he met Chinese President Xi Jinping with whom they discussed the war in Ukraine.

Medvedev, who is now deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, posted a video on his Telegram channel showing his meeting with Xi, followed by footage of a meeting between Chinese and Russian officials.

Medvedev said that they discussed with Xi the strategic partnership between the two countries "without restrictions", as well as Ukraine. He did not provide further details.

– We discussed the cooperation between the two ruling parties of China and Russia ... bilateral cooperation within the framework of our strategic partnership, including in the field of economy and industrial production. We also discussed international issues – including, of course, the conflict in Ukraine, Medvedev said.

- The talks were useful, he added.
