The Spanish sports newspaper from Madrid, "Marca", chose the best football players in "La Liga" for the last competitive season.

"Marca" traditionally at the end of the year selects the best players in the strongest Spanish championship, and this time the most awards went to Atletico Madrid, the current champion of Spain.

Jan Oblak was again chosen as the best goalkeeper in the championship, and this is the fifth such recognition for the Slovenian national team member. Luis Suarez was named the best player in La Liga last season, and Diego Simeone was named the best coach for the third time in his career.

The award for best scorer went to former Barcelona player Lionel Messi, who has won the award eight times in his career.

Last year, the Argentine scored 30 goals in 35 matches in the Barcelona jersey in the championship, but that was not enough for the Catalans in the end for the title. Interestingly, there was no recognition for the Real Madrid players.
