Manoleva: State clinics have modern conditions and equipment for treating patients like Leonid

The health insurance fund operates on the basis of regulations for the approval of treatment abroad, the additional minister of health said today. Maya Manoleva, answering the question why the Fund did not approve money for the rehabilitation of Leonid Indov abroad. She added that state clinics have modern conditions and equipment for treating such patients.

- Since I am a specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation, I know that in those regulations there is no basis for approving treatment abroad for rehabilitation. That is one thing, and the second thing that I also want to mention, which no one mentions, is that the University Clinic for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation from which I came to the position of Deputy Minister in the last 4 months is working with the latest and state-of-the-art equipment for robotic rehabilitation that allows severely immobile patients to regain the process of walking, said Manoleva.

She told the media that her information says that Leonid was not even asked for an opinion on treatment abroad.

- Of course, in order for a patient to be included in a robotic rehabilitation process, he must meet certain criteria that are assessed by the clinic's expert panel. What I know unofficially is that the clinic has not been asked for an expert opinion on consular treatment abroad, Manoleva added.

Leonid Indov will recover abroad, and the cost will be taken care of by his family with the help of humane people, after FZOM refused to pay for the treatment, explaining that in his case it is not a question of treatment abroad for a disease for which there is no treatment in the country. the country, but it is about rehabilitation as extended hospital treatment.

According to the Law on Health Insurance, the insured person can use hospital treatment abroad with the approval of the Fund only if it is a disease that cannot be treated in the country, and in the country to which the insured person is going there is a possibility of successful treatment of that disease .

Last summer, Leonid Indov had a serious accident while vacationing in Greece, in which he injured the third, fourth and fifth vertebra, so he breathes on a respirator and cannot move his limbs.

He was transported by helicopter to Vienna for treatment, but the Fund decided to reject the request for his treatment abroad.
