French President Emmanuel Macron today expressed readiness for a debate with the leader of the extreme right, Marine Le Pen, before the European Parliament elections on June 9, where "the fate of France is in question".

"If we think it's an election in which part of the fate of France is at stake, which we believe, I'm available," Macron said in an interview with the Parisienne newspaper.

Marine Le Pen said last week that she would be happy to have a debate with Macron, but on the condition that he resigns and dissolves parliament. She repeated that request today and added that she is ready for a debate, but only after the elections, in September.
