Representatives of the Macedonian Bulgarians at today's almost 40-minute meeting with the European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Oliver Varheyi in Brussels told him that the reason why they requested a meeting with him is that there was no dialogue between the representatives of the authorities in Macedonia and the Bulgarian community, reported BGNES.

- For more than two years we have been trying to establish a dialogue with the authorities in the Republic of North Macedonia. We informed Commissioner Varheyi that we are here because there is no dialogue between the representatives of the government in RSM and the Bulgarian community in the country. The future of the RSM is in the EU, but this cannot happen at the expense of the Bulgarians living in the country, said the representatives of the Macedonian Bulgarians after the meeting with Varheji.

In Brussels, at a meeting with Varheji, which took place at the request of the Macedonian Bulgarians, were Petar Kolev as the president of the GDU party, Gjorgi Trendafilov and the president of the "Vancho Mihajlov" association from Bitola, Ljupcho Georgievski. Varheyi already promised in November last year that he would receive them for a conversation if they approached him for a meeting. The very next month, in December, they requested a meeting with the European Commissioner.

– Instead of working on changes that will include the Bulgarians in the Constitution so that the negotiations with the EU can start as soon as possible, the parliament in the RSM adopts laws for the complete closure of the clubs of the local clubs in the RSM. We expect the next report of the European Commission on the progress of North Macedonia to include the questions we asked at this meeting, the three representatives said after the meeting.
