The Macedonian film "Overexposed" had its world premiere at the Cairo festival, but has been banned for public screening

The Macedonian film "Preexposed", which had its world premiere at the International Festival in Cairo, was one of the six films that were banned from public screening, writes Al Jazeera in Arabic.

Although the festival claims that the films were not censored or banned, they confirm that for certain films, including the Macedonian "Overexposed", entry restrictions were placed, that is, it was only available to adults. However, Al Jazeera claims that in fact the film was only available to film professionals accredited to the festival, as well as to critics and media representatives, while tickets were unavailable to the local population.

From the production DNF Films they say that they are surprised by this news and found out about this only after they returned from Cairo.

We are really surprised by what we read. At the premiere itself, the hall was full and we were quite satisfied with the attendance and response, considering that our premiere coincided with the opening of the World Cup in Qatar. We got a lot of questions and there were positive reactions, but from this point of view, most of the attendees wore badges with credentials or introduced themselves to us as journalists.

According to the film's director, Eleonora Veninova, this news left them with mixed feelings.

For one, I am grateful to the programmers and selectors of the festival for inviting us to participate in the official competition, but the fact that our film was not available to film lovers leaves me with a really bitter feeling. Apparently, the festival took a risk to invite films that deal with topics that are controversial in that society, but in the end the Censorship Committee of Egypt had the last word. I think that the way I treat the marriage and sexuality of the characters in the film is controversial for them, says Veninova.

The film "Overexposed" met with a great reception at the Cairo Festival, one of the 15 A festivals in the world, and the first reviews have already come out, which write that "..From the very first moments of her debut feature film, it becomes clear that director Eleonora Veninova has a gift for setting up a passive-aggressive dramaturgical structure."

The main roles are played by Kamka Tocinovski, Blagoj Veselinov and Sara Klimovska. Cinematographer: Lev Predan Kovarski, music: Lindsay Wright, scenography Srdjan Mitrović, screenplay: Eleonora Veninov, editor: Gotse Kralevski, costumes: Jaklina Krstevska, sound editor: Darko Spasovski, director Eleonora Veninova, producer Gotse Kralevski (DNF FILMS), co -producer Mirjana Tomic (LILIT-Serbia), International agent: Open Reel.

The film was shot with the support of the Film Agency, the Serbian Film Center and Euroimage.
