Macedonian conductor Gian Emin and pianist Francesco Tristano will perform with the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra

An extraordinary journey through musical eras is announced at the concert conducted by our Gian Emin, who will perform with the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra on January 25th, along with world-renowned pianist Francesco Tristano.

The musical journey with the Luxembourg Philharmonic will begin with the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in D minor by J.S. Bach, and will end with contemporary music, including original works by Gian Emin and Francesco Tristano, which will be complemented by the use of electronics and sound design.

The concert in Luxembourg is another in a series of Emin's performances on the European stage, following his successful performance in Portugal at the Guimarães Jazz Festival, where he gave a solo concert at the closing of the prestigious festival together with the Guimarães Symphony Orchestra.

Dzijan Emin was born in Skopje. He is a versatile musician with extensive musical experience. From leading the horn players in the Macedonian Philharmonic, to skillfully playing improvised music or jazz (on one of the many instruments he masters), from conducting international orchestras to composing and arranging scores for film and theater, to playing guitar or keyboards with rock bands, to producing albums and as an artistic director of festivals, Dzijan shines to the fullest, always adding a precious original voice and unparalleled musicianship.

As one of the leading contemporary musicians from Macedonia and the region, Dzijan has also gained great authority throughout the world, as a natural consequence when it comes to such a high level of musicianship. The list of musicians with whom he has collaborated includes world-famous authors, such as Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Jeff Mills, Francesco Tristano, Kurt Elling, Frank London, Malcolm Burn, Jan Bang, Arve Henriksen, Luis Bonilla, Francesco Bearzati, Luca Aquino, Gianluca Petrella, Damo Suzuki, "Air", Gloria Estefan, Rico the Magician ("Daft Punk"), Rambo Amadeus, Darko Rundek, Kiril Dzajkovski, "Arhangel", Femi Kuti, Vlatko Stefanovski and many others.

As a conductor/producer of various projects, his work has been presented and performed with several symphony orchestras, such as the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra "L'amoureux" in Paris, the Symphony Orchestra of Flanders - Belgium, the Macedonian Philharmonic, the Georgian National Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Lorraine, the Guimarães Symphony Orchestra, and since last year he has been the principal conductor of the National Jazz Orchestra in Skopje.

He has been a vital part of many other orchestras, including the Belgrade Philharmonic, the No Borders Orchestra, the East West World Orchestra, the Fame Orchestra, and many others. He appears on dozens of albums, of which about a dozen as a leader. He has composed, orchestrated, and recorded music for many feature films, theater plays, and countless pieces for commercials and the like.

Francesco Tristano

While at New York's prestigious Juilliard School, Francesco Tristano laid the foundations for his ambitions as an interpreter of Bach's music: he played and recorded the piano concertos with his ensemble "The New Bach Players", as well as the "Goldberg Variations" (under the small label "Accord"). Shortly thereafter, he signed a contract with the French label "Infiné", where he released his first records combining electronics and piano.

Tristano’s big break came in 2011, when he signed a contract with Deutsche Grammophon, with which he recorded three programs inspired by his growth as an internationally acclaimed concert pianist. The first was Bach/Cage (2011) – an exploration of the sonic space where the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and John Cage coexisted despite a distance of three centuries. On his third record for Deutsche Grammophon, entitled Scandal (2014), which he recorded with Alice Sarah Ott, the program was based on piano performances of works composed by Maurice Ravel, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Igor Stravinsky for legendary Russian ballets.

In 2017, Francesco Tristano began his collaboration with Sony Classical. In his latest album, Tokyo Stories (2019), he pays homage to Japan and captures the atmospheres and experiences accumulated over the years of visiting the country as an artist and immersing himself in its culture.

The Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 1933 as part of the broadcasting activities of Radio Luxembourg (RTL) and has been publicly managed since 1996, subsidized by the Ministry of Culture of the Grand Duchy and financially supported by the City of Luxembourg.
