A mother from the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh chased a leopard almost a mile before fighting it to save her eight-year-old son.

Kiran Baiga's wife was at work around 19 p.m. local time on November 28 when a leopard grabbed her son Rahul who was sitting nearby. She noticed the leopard running away with her child, after which she chased him for 1 kilometer, reports News18.

According to Grantshala India, Baiga hit the leopard with a stick and managed to free Rahul. The leopard then attacked Baiga, and she grabbed his paw and pushed her away.

Other locals then arrived at the scene, and the leopard fled into the woods. Baiga then lost consciousness and woke up in hospital.

Both Baiga and her son were slightly injured in the attack and were treated in hospital.

Nihil Surjavanshi, a News18 reporter, wrote on Twitter: "In the Sidi district of Madhya Pradesh, a mother was fighting to save her son. This mother's son was taken away by a leopard. The mother chased the leopard one kilometer and kidnapped the child. "Both the mother and the son were injured in this incident."

Wild cats often attack them

Baiga and her family live in the village of Badijaria in the Sanjay Tiger Reserve. She told the local newspaper Dainik Jagran that such cases happen often and that they live in fear of leopards. In February, a 12-year-old girl was killed by a leopard in the Sanjay Tiger Reserve while she and her mother were collecting firewood from the forest.

In Madhya Pradesh, fatal leopard attacks are relatively common. On November 22, a 7-year-old boy was killed in Seoni County. The animals attacked a group of boys who were playing around XNUMX am local time.
