Lyutkov will wake up MNT - "the sleeping giant beside Vardar"
The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Zoran Ljutkov, as part of his regular visits to institutions in the field of culture, today visited the Macedonian National Theater and attended the actors' rehearsal for the play "12", an adaptation of the well-known script "Twelve Angry Men". directed by Sinisha Eftimov.
Lyutkov said that he found two situations in MNT - one of them is overjoyed, after seeing how things are going on the plays that are in progress, while the other, as he said, he is horrified and shocked.
"I am shocked by the state in which the theater is, which has been going on for 7-8 years. Even though the condition was known and over the years funds were provided for repairs and renovations, it still did not happen. The theater was built with a lot of love. The actors of MNT received a beautiful building, which I am not saying that there were no flaws in the construction, but since 2017 it had to be intervened and maintained. Regarding the budget, there were years when MNT had 20 million MKD for production. In 2017, there were 14 million denars, and today we have 4 million denars," said the minister.
Ljutkov expressed his satisfaction with the managerial work of director Nikola Kimovski, who is currently producing several plays at MNT for which part of the funds are provided by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
He expressed confidence that "year after year, both in the area of investments and in the area of programs, together with the managers, we will wake up the sleeping giant next to Vardar and restore the shine to the institutions".
