The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense advises the public to avoid buying mobile phones from Chinese manufacturers and to get rid of them as soon as possible, if they own them.

The ministry advised citizens to get rid of Chinese-made mobile phones, noting that a government report revealed that they had built-in censorship software.

- Phones sold in Europe by Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi Corp have the ability to detect and censor terms such as "Free Tibet", "Long live Taiwan's independence" or "Movement for Democracy", said the Lithuanian Cyber Security Agency. .

A Lithuanian government report says Xiaomi Mi 10T 5G software is down for the European Union, but can be turned on remotely at any time. Xiaomi phones are also said to send encrypted device usage data to a server in Singapore. The report reveals that the list of terms that can censor system applications, including Xiaomi's standard web browser, currently contains 449 Chinese expressions and is constantly being updated.

It was said that this is important not only for Lithuania, but also for all countries that use Xiaomi equipment.

"Our advice is not to buy new Chinese phones and get rid of existing ones as soon as possible," said Lithuanian Deputy Defense Minister Margiris Abukevicius.
