"Today, the parliamentary group of the Left submitted the declaration for the recognition of Palestine in the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia. With this declaration, we once again express our support for the Palestinian people's right to self-determination as a basic human right guaranteed by international law and a guiding principle for all nations fighting for freedom and independence," informed MP and spokesperson of the party, Amar Mecinovic.

He said the Palestinian people "have been victims of the Zionist regime for decades, which has carried out systematic colonialism and ethnic cleansing."

- The recognition of the independence of Palestine is an important step towards correcting the historical injustices inflicted on this people. The policies that the Zionist regime is implementing against the Palestinians are nothing short of Apartheid. The systematic ghettoization and confiscation of Palestinian lands are only part of the actions that deepen the occupation. Genocide is taking place against the Palestinian people in Gaza at this very moment. Unimaginable violence, deprivation of basic living conditions, bombing of homes, killing of civilians including children are clear evidence of war crimes and crimes against humanity, Mecinovic said.

According to him, the international community must take action "to stop these barbaric acts and ensure justice for the Palestinians."

- With this declaration, Macedonia will join the world movement for the recognition of Palestinian independence, added the MP from the Left.

In July, the Government announced that they have not made a final decision on the recognition of Palestine, but this issue remains on the agenda and we will continue to work in full respect of international law and UN principles.

The Cabinet of the President of the State says that she is guided by the Macedonian national interests. They add that according to the Macedonian Constitution, the recognition of states and governments is the responsibility of the Government.

- President Siljanovska Davkova appreciates that when making decisions, the positions of NATO, where we are a full member, as well as the European Union, where we are candidates for membership, should be taken into account. The President believes that such an important issue requires an exchange of views between all power holders, say the Cabinet of the President of the Republic of North Macedonia.
