Lavrov says Russia's new strategy sees the West as an "existential" threat

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said today that the new foreign policy strategy adopted by President Vladimir Putin identifies the West as an "existential" threat to Moscow.

"The existential nature of threats to the security and development of our country, prompted by the actions of hostile states, is recognized" in politics, Lavrov said.

He qualified the United States as the driving force behind "anti-Russian sentiments."
