Lammy: Putin's threats of nuclear war are "sand in the eyes"

The head of British diplomacy, David Lammy, described today Russia's warning to the West, which is considering the possibility of authorizing the use of long-range missiles by Kiev, as "throwing sand in the eyes" and "forking". Tensions over the sensitive topic came to a head this week when US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer discussed the possibility at the White House.

In today's interview with the BBC, Lamy said that talks on this topic with the United States and allies continue, Index.hr reports.

Asked if he thinks that Vladimir Putin is lying when he brings the threats of nuclear war to the table, Lammy replied that what the Russian president does and says is "throwing sand in his eyes and gossiping", that is, that is his way of working.

He threatens when it comes to tanks, he threatens when it comes to missiles and nuclear weapons, but we can't let him derail us, Lamy says, calling the Russian president an "imperialist fascist."

According to the British Foreign Secretary, Putin will not stop in Ukraine if he is allowed to win.

Vladimir Putin warned on Thursday that if the West allowed Ukraine to attack Russian territory with long-range missiles, it would mean that "NATO countries are at war with Russia".

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, meanwhile, has repeatedly asked Western allies to allow him to attack military targets deep inside Russia, such as air bases from which planes bombing Ukraine take off.

For now, the West, led by the United States, does not give the green light for such a move.
