Cuban wrestler Lopes Núñez made history, five gold medals in a row in the same discipline
The wrestler from Cuba Miain López Núñez (41) achieved an incredible and historic result of The Olympic Games in Paris, winning the fifth gold medal in the fifth games in a row.
In the final fight in Greco-Roman style up to 130 kg, Lopes Nunes defeated the Chilean Yasmani Acosta Fernandez with 6:0 and won a new gold medal in his glorious career.
He won his first gold at the Beijing Games when he competed up to 120 kg, and repeated it all four years later when London hosted the Olympic Games.
Then in the next three cases he competed in the category up to 130 kilograms, and the habits of winning gold medals remained the same. It was the best in Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo and now in Paris.
With that, López Núñez became the first athlete in history to win five gold medals in the same discipline. So far, American athlete Carl Lewis in the long jump, American swimmer Michael Phelps in the 200-meter individual medley, American swimmer Katie Ledecky in the 800-meter freestyle, Denmark's Paul Elvstrom in sailing, American Alfred Oerter in the discus and Japan's Kaoir Icho in wrestling have won four gold medals in same discipline.
