Doctor Trajkovski recommends that those who are Covid-positive should not take antibiotics on their own
The coronavirus is present, but rapid tests cannot be found in all pharmacies. Social networks are full of people looking for recommendations for pharmacies where they can find a quick, antigenic test that is cheap and costs about two hundred and fifty denars, and which detects the presence of the virus. Private labs test immediately, but for twice the price of pharmacy tests. Most of the patients who feel symptoms are treated symptomatically, claim the doctors with whom "Sloboden Pechat" spoke. They say that there is a serious trend - to take antibiotics for covid on your own, which without a doctor's recommendation can do more harm than good.
- In general, an increased number of cases with covid and other respiratory diseases, as well as conditions with gastrointestinal symptoms, were expected during this period. If we allude to covid, yes, this period we are absolutely seeing an increase in cases as we knew would happen due to the start of the school year, the drop in temperatures, people gathering indoors and contacts increased. The increase is mostly due to the fact that we do almost no type of examination and testing. Only if the patient voluntarily requests, or if we evaluate. We have realized that the treatment of covid is in certain aspects symptomatic. We treat symptoms, if necessary we give therapy, and very rarely, I hardly remember such a case, we send a patient for hospital treatment, the family doctor, doctor Bojan Trajkovski, told "Sloboden Pechat".
He recommends that the citizens have complete peace, that there is no panic.
- To receive fluids, to rest, and one of the biggest messages to them is not to drink antibiotics alone. Citizens receive antibiotics without a doctor's recommendation and in this way they destroy the good flora in their organism and protection - adds Dr. Trajkovski.
Meanwhile, the Institute of Public Health reported four people who died associated with covid-19 within a week, from the ninth to the fifteenth of September.
Professor Dragan Danilovski warns of the way the media reports on deaths associated with covid-19. He explains that it is very important not to suggest that the citizens who died with covid died because of the coronavirus, especially since the report of the Institute of Public Health states that some of them had accompanying diseases.
They did not die from covid-19. They died of covid-19. In the report of the Institute of Public Health, it is clearly written that all the deceased were over 70 years old, three of them died in hospital conditions, and three people had registered comorbidities. All persons were unvaccinated against covid-19, says Professor Danilovski.
He explains that this means that these people died from some chronic disease of theirs that was the main cause of death, and covid-19 was only an accompanying, so-called "associated" cause that accelerated the occurrence of death.
- This means that covid-19 must not be listed as the "main cause of death", but only as "associated". In short, none of the four who died last week died of covid-19 even though they were infected - explains Danilovski.
In the Institute of Public Health, 57 positive cases were registered in one week, out of 285 tested materials. On average, 20 percent of those tested were positive. In the week before, 111 positive cases were registered. The report by the Institute of Public Health notes a change in word choice and lists the deaths as "associated with Covid-19". In this way, the distinction is made that covid-19 is not the primary cause of death. However, this does not mean that the virus should be ignored, but that those people who have a higher risk of getting sick from a severe form of covid should be careful. Virologists say that the contagiousness of covid begins one to two days before the onset of symptoms and lasts three to five, even seven or more days.
Although the drug "Paxlovid" is available throughout Europe and America, it is not available in Macedonia.
Professor-Dr. Dragan Danilovski warns in different ways that this drug is a salvation for some older citizens and chronically ill, if there are no contraindications to receiving it. By the way, "paxlovid" is a drug intended for patients with a mild and moderate clinical picture, who have a real risk of getting a severe disease or dying from covid-19. These include senior citizens, chronically ill, extremely obese patients, etc. This medicine is obtained by prescription after the doctor has reviewed the medicines that patients regularly take for other health problems. It must not be given if certain other drugs are taken, for example anti-blood clots, schizophrenia, high blood pressure, fat loss, etc.
For the entire year 2024, as of September 15, a total of 1.560 sick and 20 deceased persons associated with covid-19 were registered. Most of the patients were registered in Skopje, Bitola and Kumanovo. and the highest morbidity was registered in Kavadarci. The highest mortality is registered in Ohrid, Kavadarci and Prilep. The highest mortality is registered in Struga and Kriva Palanka.
Regarding the registration date, the highest number of sick people on a weekly basis, 11.881, was registered during the fourth week in 2022. During the year 2024, and as of September 15, 2024, a total of 1.560 sick people were registered. In the month of August 2024, there were 829 registered cases, which is an increase of 3,3 times compared to the previous month when there were 250 cases. In September, 172 sick people were registered.
After a period of very low activity, an increased activity of covid is detected, within
on the European continent, including in Macedonia. According to the Institute of Public Health, people over the age of 60 are at the highest risk of serious illness. Hospitalizations of people with confirmed covid-19, admissions to intensive care and deaths remain low in the countries of the European Union.
IJZ recommends following the basic measures for the prevention of covid-19 and other respiratory infectious diseases.
Vaccination remains a specific preventive measure providing protection against severe forms
of disease, although this protective effect diminishes over time. Vaccination of persons at high risk of severe disease and poor outcome, such as the elderly, continues to be recommended.
