At present, 2.600 classes in Austria have been quarantined due to the coronavirus, and nine schools have been closed, the Ministry of Education announced today.

There are about 6.000 schools in Austria and close to 58.000 classes, so that 95% of the classes are still held normally. However, the number of classes switching to online classes is growing rapidly due to the emergence of Covid-19 among students.

It was announced on Tuesday that 1.900 classes had been quarantined, and two days later that number had risen to 2.600. According to the rule that currently applies when detecting an infection in a student, classes continue normally, but students must be tested daily for the next five days. If infections are detected in another student within three days, the class is sent to quarantine, ie to online classes.

Otherwise, students are tested three times a week in schools, one of which must be a PCR test. When it comes to kindergartens in Vienna, 11 percent of children's groups are currently in quarantine.
