The government should provide conditions for an independent and efficient judiciary and prosecution, said the Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski answering a journalist's question about the US sanctions team in an interview with Trilling on 24 TV.

"What the government does is approve a budget that is then managed by the judiciary and the prosecution. Second, the government is preparing legal solutions that are in line with the EU, and we are doing that. Some of those legal decisions have been adopted, but some of those decisions have not been adopted because they are blocked by the opposition. Then, I always say and will continue to say that the judiciary and the prosecution must work independently of any political and business interests. And finally, I never generalize everyone, that something doesn't seem like it, and that something seems like it if it is made up of individuals, but always needs to be promoted in every system, here I mean the justice system, that promotion should be done through the bodies that are there, identifying those that are good, identifying those that need to be improved. But also identifying those who may not be doing the job the way they should be doing it. "Certain cases that you list, questions can only be submitted to the institutions that work with them, which are the judicial authorities in relation to the startup of any case that is under their jurisdiction," said the Prime Minister.

According to him, legal security in our country is improving year by year.

"We are a country which, as you remember, only six years ago was a captured country, and today we are a democracy in the company of democratic countries. If you look at the reports of "Transparency International", we progress every year on the scale of the fight against corruption, and this year we have also progressed on that scale within the framework of the fight against corruption," Kovacevski said.

He added that last year alone, the Ministry of the Interior identified 164 cases of corruption involving individuals or legal entities and which were subsequently prosecuted.

-Also, if we look at the numbers, the crime rate during 2022 has decreased by 33% compared to the previous year, and in these first two months of this year, we see a decrease of an additional 33%. What we need is continuous improvement of every system and that is why I am one of the biggest advocates of EU membership, because one of the key criteria for entering the EU is the Basics cluster, which includes what is included and the rule of law, who will say what. accurately and will detect all those areas in which the rule of law, the justice system, the prosecution system and other institutions under the jurisdiction of the Government should be improved in our country in order to have a society that will be on the same level as those societies with which we compare ourselves, that is, with those countries that are members of the EU. That screening report because the screening finally ends with criteria that are done based on what the state needs to fulfill in order to bring the level of its society in all areas to the level of functioning of an EU member. It will advance us as a process and that is why I keep saying that everyone should participate in that process, not only the parties that are in power, but also the opposition parties that were invited to be part of the negotiating teams that participated in the screening because that way the whole society will be able to give its contribution in participating in its advancement, concluded Kovacevski.
