The Prime Minister and President of the Social Democratic Union, Dimitar Kovacevski, tonight before the meetings of the party leadership regarding the outcome of the leadership meeting on the constitutional amendments, said that the opposition VMRO-DPMNE has changed its position on this issue and that it is most positive that space is being opened for the state to finally achieve the second strategic goal - membership in the European Union union.

In SDSM, after the session of the Executive Board, a session of the Central Board is underway, regarding the manner and form in which the negotiations with the opposition VMRO-DPMNE will continue, following the new circumstances of the political scene from yesterday's meeting of the leaders of the two parties.

- North Macedonia will continue the European integration path through the adoption of the constitutional amendments, through the formation of a government that will adopt them, then complete the screening process, open the chapters from the first cluster, that government can also close one or two chapters from the first cluster and then that government, or technical government, but I think it is better that government because it will have the participation of all political parties, to organize the next elections next year and let the citizens have their say. However, in my opinion, what is most positive is that space is being opened for the citizens to finally achieve the second strategic goal that we have, which is after membership in NATO and membership in the European Union, a process which is now open and which has the support of all EU member states, Kovacevski said before the meetings in the party.

He said that it is to be welcomed, as he stated, that the attitude of the opposition has changed in relation to the previous one - that there is no way for them to support amendments to the Constitution.

- These meetings come after the leadership meeting at which we have changed the position of the opposition, where clearly at a press conference after the leadership meeting the president of VMRO-DPMNE said that constitutional amendments that were not acceptable before and voting of constitutional amendments with which parts of the Bulgarian people will be part of our Preamble to the Constitution. This is something that is really a new position of VMRO-DPMNE in relation to the previous one that they had that there is no way in which they would support constitutional amendments and that is for greeting, Kovacevski said.

As he stated in a TV interview on the eve of the meetings, Kovacevski does not agree with the statement that the demands presented by Mickoski at the leadership meeting were rejected. Everyone, he says, is welcome, including a DUI-free government.

- All the proposals that VMRO-DPMNE had were accepted, and even the proposal they had regarding DUI was accepted by DUI with their announcement. So, all the requirements have been met, Kovacevski pointed out.

On the conclusion that the difference is not small in that DUI says that it is ready not to be in the Government, but after they are voted and the constitutional amendments will come into force, and the condition of VMRO-DPMNE is to vote the constitutional amendments, but the entry into force to be delayed until the country's entry into the EU, the prime minister is optimistic.

He says that with the change of attitude of the opposition party, there is not the biggest difference.

"First, the biggest difference, which no longer exists, was the accusation and rhetoric of VMRO-DPMNE that Bulgarianization, assimilation, identity is being violated, etc. of the Macedonian people by including the parts of the Bulgarian people in the Preamble of our Constitution. For a whole year, from the beginning of the adoption of the French proposal, that was the rhetoric, so that after the leadership meeting, everyone was convinced that this position had already changed, which was publicly expressed once again in a televised interview of the president of VMRO-DPMNE, which already it does not exist - according to VMRO-DPMNE, and we never had that danger", says the Prime Minister.

Earlier, the spokesperson of VMRO-DPMNE Naum Stoilkovski answering a journalist's question regarding what he expects from the meetings in SDSM, he said that Kovacevski should resign and that in SDSM "there is nervousness because DUI is going into opposition".

"It is strange that today Kovacevski is holding meetings for proposals that he previously rejected, which is proof of his wrong assessment. He should resign because of that and because of all the crises he has plunged Macedonia into. The nervousness is in SDS because DUI is going into opposition and some of the reasonable ones in that party know that VMRO-DPMNE will lead an uncompromising fight against crime in all ranks. If they were not wrong, they should not be nervous. We expect Kovacevski to resign. But the most surprising thing is that self-declared patriots are actually now fighting for DUI to remain in power, and for Macedonians to be divided," said Stoilkovski.
