Kovacevski announced investments for the development of local infrastructure

Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski, Minister of Transport and Communications Blagoj Bochvarski and Minister of Internal Affairs Oliver Spasovski, today presented the Project for Connecting Local Roads, which is being implemented by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, with the support of the World Bank, and whose goal is to improve of the road infrastructure.

Kovacevski emphasized that through this project, with 70 million euros, better infrastructure is provided and local streets and roads are reconstructed in all 80 municipalities across the country and the City of Skopje.

- This is the largest and most significant project for the municipalities, where the infrastructure at the local level is improved with direct assistance. The project has been implemented since 2020 and so far over 90 streets in 44 municipalities have been covered. According to the plan, a total of about 450 kilometers of local streets and roads in all 80 municipalities are planned for reconstruction by 2024. A developed local infrastructure means a developed economy, Kovacevski said.

He emphasized that with this project, better infrastructure is provided in the municipalities, citizens' lives are made easier, urban living is improved, local economic development is ensured, traffic safety and better communication between citizens is ensured.

Kovacevski said that over 250 million euros have been invested in the municipalities through five major projects alone, including the "Project for connecting local roads".

Minister Bochvarski said that investments in infrastructure are of crucial importance for the economic growth and development of the state, especially if they are directly aimed at the municipalities for the sake of local economic development but also improving the urban living of the citizens.

He emphasized that the rehabilitation of the local road network is the first and basic priority for the citizens, for the economy, but also the improvement of traffic safety.

- It is through this project that we offer and provide all these priorities. Especially now in the time of the biggest world crisis, when there are limiting factors in construction, we increase the capacity of the municipalities and inject more financial resources into the economy, said Bochvarski.

He announced that they are actively working on collecting and processing new projects and by the end of the year it is expected that several more public calls will be announced.

Minister Spasovski pointed out that for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as an institution directly involved in the field of traffic safety, how important is the issue of quality management of road safety and improvements in the capacity for managing road safety at the level of municipalities, i.e. local communities.
