Kosovo MFA: The Skopje court decided not to extradite the former member of the KLA
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo announced that the Council of the Basic Criminal Court in Skopje decided not to extradite the Kosovar citizen Blerim Ramadani, who was arrested last month at the Kosovo-Macedonia border on the basis of an Interpol warrant issued at the request of Serbia, the correspondent of MIA from Pristina.
Today's announcement by the Ministry states that Ramadani, a former member of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), will remain under house arrest in Skopje until the final verdict of the Supreme Court of the Republic of North Macedonia.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Republic of Kosovo informs the public that the Council of the Basic Criminal Court Skopje has decided not to extradite our citizen, Mr. Blerim Ramadani. We remind you that on 17.07.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX at the Jajince/Globocica border crossing... Ramadani, a former member of the KLA, based on the Serbian arrest warrant issued by INTERPOL. "Mr. Ramadani will continue his stay under house arrest in Skopje until the final judgment (ex officio) of the Supreme Court of the Republic of North Macedonia," the statement reads.
Blerim Ramadani, based on an international warrant issued to Interpol by Serbia, was arrested in July at the Jajince border crossing. The content of the arrest warrant is based on Serbia's suspicions that Ramadani, as a former KLA soldier, committed war crimes in the Nerodime region.
Serbian Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dacic, during his visit to the Tabanovce border crossing on July 25, asked the Skopje authorities to extradite Ramadani to Serbia. The issue of his extradition was also raised during the visit of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Kosovo, Djeljalj Svechlja, to Skopje on July 31. Svechlja said Skopje should make its own decisions, accusing Serbia of tending to spoil relations between Western Balkan countries.
On August 1, the competent Macedonian court changed Ramadani's sentence from "detention" to "house arrest" and, according to the decision, he was sent to an address in Skopje. This decision stipulates that he will remain under "house arrest" until August 16.
The media in Pristina remind that Ramadani is the third citizen of Kosovo as a former KLA soldier, arrested in North Macedonia on the basis of a Serbian warrant. Gafur Dugoli and Tomor Morina were arrested in the past, but they were released by a court decision.
