Rasmussen and Rubio also discussed Ukraine, European security and the situation in the Middle East, the ministry said, Reuters reported.
Rasmussen on Tuesday rejected suggestions by new United States President Donald Trump that the US could try to take control of Greenland, while Greenlandic Prime Minister Mute Egede said Greenlanders want to be neither American nor Danish.
Rasmussen said he was particularly concerned about the spread of the "rhetoric" of the new US president, who spoke of expanding American territory, Tanjug reports.
Greenland is a Danish autonomous territory and is the largest island in the world, as well as the largest dependent territory, and its inhabitants are also citizens of the European Union.
