How long can we last without sleep?
Do you think that you do not get enough sleep? Theoretically, the body can withstand a certain period without sleep. The world record is 11 days and 25 minutes. But that does not mean it is useful. In addition, lack of sleep is a serious problem. Even if one manages to stay awake for days, it is not great for his mental or physical health.
For example, in 1959, the radio host Peter Tripp decided to broadcast his show for 201 hours in order to raise money for a charity. By the third day, he started cursing people around him and hallucinating. Although he recovered after the experiment, his family members said he was never the same.
There are various stories circulating on the Internet about people who claim they don't sleep at all or only sleep an hour or two a night. Sleep consultant Dr Christopher Winter says that is not true.
"A lot of people think they're not sleeping, but the truth is they're sleeping without even knowing they're doing it," Dr. Winter told Men's Health.
Dr. Winter says it is physically impossible to stay awake for days because your brain will force you to fall asleep.
"My record was 48 hours and it's definitely not fun," he says.
How much it is possible to endure without sleep is actually very difficult to say. And the Guinness Book of World Records has stopped documenting such attempts in an attempt to prevent people from harming their health.
What is certainly true is that an adult needs seven to nine hours of sleep a night, and if you have insomnia, use some methods and techniques that can help you fall asleep easier.
