The sunniest city in Europe it is located on the southeast coast of Spain, where the sun shines for an average of 349 hours during the month, and the average monthly temperature is 19°C. It's about Alicante, one of the most beautiful summer resorts on the Costa Blanca, an area known for its Mediterranean beaches.

Well, if you ever decide to visit the city of the sun, here's what you can visit:

Santa Barbara Castle or "Castillo de Santa Barbara"

One of the largest fortresses in Spain, it is located at an altitude of 166 meters. It can be reached in several ways, there are numerous hiking trails as well as an elevator that leads to the top and costs 2,7 euros. There is no entrance fee to the tower, but it is open from 10 am to 23 pm during the summer season. The fort consists of three levels and they are located at different heights, and each level represents history from different eras.

Explande de Espagna Promenade

After the fortress you can walk along Alicante's most famous promenade called "Explande de Espagna". It consists of 6,5 million marble tiles in white, blue and red. Around the promenade there are numerous restaurants and cafes, and in one of them you can rest and taste some of the traditional Spanish dishes such as "arozz de rabo de toro" or "rice with bull's tail".

Mercado Central Market

The next thing worth seeing is the Mercado Central market. As in all coastal towns,
the main food is fish, but you can also enjoy different types of fruits, vegetables, wine, cheese and
delicacies.

Authentic to Spain, what you can try at this market is Iberico prosciutto made from a breed of pig that feeds exclusively on acorns. It melts in your mouth. You can find it in the market as "Pata Negra" or "Black Paw".

Mushroom Street or "Call da Las Setas"

Be sure to take a walk along the most unusual street located in the center of the city, famous for the large mushrooms rising from the yellow-green pavement. The real name of this street is San Francisco.

And if you want to cool off, you can visit the city beach "El Postignute", which is the most visited, and therefore not the cleanest. Urbanova beach is also nearby, and Arenales del Sol is not far from it.
