"Finland will go through the demands made by Turkey against the plans of that country and Sweden to join NATO," Finnish President Sauli Niinisto said today after meeting with US President Joseph Biden and Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Anderson at the White House.

"We have a reason to go through what Turkey has expressed in an appropriate way and then give our clear answers," Ninisto told reporters, according to Reuters.

After decades of neutrality, Finland and Sweden formally submitted their application to join NATO yesterday.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today that his country would block the two countries' accession to the alliance, accusing them of "protecting terrorists". He demanded the extradition of members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, which is considered a terrorist organization in Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
