Kirjas: Case of detained diplomat in Serbia is not only diplomatic, but also a state scandal

Former Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emil Kirjas, in tonight's guest appearance on TV 24 said that the arrest of the Macedonian diplomat in Serbia is not only a scandal in diplomacy, but also a scandal in the country.

"This raises the question of how it is possible for Armenia, ie a third country, to search for our citizen with a red warrant, and for our ministry and prosecutor's office not to take any action. And it should be noted that this is not about one, but three of our diplomats. "One of them is in custody, but the other two are in our country," Kirjas said.

"We do not have information on how the Ministry of Interior and the prosecution act. When you have indications that your citizen has an arrest warrant from Interpol, and the Ministry of Interior knew that, it is logical for the Ministry of Interior to inform the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that there is a diplomat wanted on a warrant." This shows that there is no communication between the institutions in the country - if there is a red warrant from the three, how did they leave the country at all? What did the countries through which they passed do? Certainly Milenkovski did not enter Serbia by drone, he crossed the border into Hungary or through Slovenia and Croatia, says Kirjas.

Macedonian diplomat Mile Milenkovski, acting Deputy Head of the Macedonian OSCE Mission to Vienna, was arrested in Serbia in late August, on a warrant issued in Austria, and on suspicion that together with two other diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, participated in action to pull out controversial businessman Levon Sargsyan from Armenia, who was accused of money laundering and other acts in his own country. The businessman, who is still on the run, is the brother of former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan.
