The US is against China's peace plan for Ukraine: "It would recognize Russia's benefits"
The United States opposes China's proposal for an immediate ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine because it would cement the position of Russia's military interests, the White House said.
"The cease-fire is now again an effective ratification of Russian conquests," John Kirby, spokesman for the National Security Council at the White House, said today, answering questions from a reporter about the announced visit to Moscow next week by Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
"This would effectively recognize the gains of Russia and its attempts to seize its neighbor's territory by force, allowing Russian troops to continue occupying the sovereign territory of Ukraine," Kirby said.
The call for a ceasefire is part of a peace proposal by Xi Jinping, who will go to Russia next week for a meeting with the country's leader. The US hopes for a constructive role for China in helping to end the war in Ukraine.
Kirby, however, expressed doubt that the meeting of the Chinese leader in Russia represented a sincere effort to achieve peace.
He emphasized that if Jinpin has meetings for some kind of serious achievement of peace, the president of Ukraine should also participate in them. Volodomir Zelenski.
"We certainly do not support calls for a ceasefire by the PRC and a meeting in Moscow that would simply benefit Russia," Kirby said.
