Chinese courts prosecute over 1,66 million people annually
In the period from 2017 to 2022, Chinese courts processed 8,3 million people, which is an increase of 12 percent compared to the previous period.
Also, the number of appeals against court verdicts has increased by almost 20 percent.
The outgoing director of the Supreme People's Procuratorate of China, Zhang Yun, says that prosecutions for violent crimes have fallen by 31,7 percent, while prosecutions for online crimes such as gambling, fraud and the distribution of obscene material have increased by 43,3 percent.
An earlier report highlighted that there were 1.400 prosecutions for national security offenses between 2018 and 2022, but this was not mentioned in the official report.
