A Chinese company has produced a battery that charges a car for a 15 km drive in 500 minutes
Chinese manufacturer Geely's Zikr electric vehicle brand has unveiled lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries that support fast charging, claiming to charge in 15 minutes for up to 500km of driving.
At a battery plant owned by Zikr parent group Geely Holding in Zhejiang province, the company announced on Thursday that its 007 sedan will be the first model to be equipped with batteries that can be charged enough to drive up to 500 kilometers in 15 minutes, with an 800 volt electrical system. Zikr used nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) batteries from the world's largest battery manufacturer, China's KATL, to power its 001 crossover and 009 utility vehicles.
KATL has also launched fast-charging batteries that will be used by Lee Auto in the first all-electric MEGA car model, giving it a driving range of 500 km, with a charging time of just 12 minutes.
Zikr's Chinese rival Nio, which is also developing its own battery technologies, plans to spin off its battery business to cut costs, Reuters reported.
