China wants to work with North Korea to achieve regional peace
Chinese President Xi Jinping told North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that China will be ready to work together with North Korea for regional and global peace, stability and prosperity, North Korea's state news agency KCNA reported, citing Xi's letter to Kim.
State news agency KCNA did not mention North Korea's recent missile launches that have heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula following joint military exercises between South Korea and the United States, Reuters reported.
US President Joseph Biden pointed out to Chinese President Xi Jinping 10 days ago that Beijing has an obligation to try to deter North Korea from its seventh nuclear test.
South Korea's special representative for peace and security on the Korean Peninsula, Kim Gun, last week called for active cooperation between China and Russia to prevent Pyongyang from continuing its missile tests, hours before a UN Security Council meeting to discuss this issue.
