China has continued to issue ordinary visas to Japanese citizens, the Chinese Embassy in Japan announced today.

Starting today, the Chinese Embassy and Consulates in Japan will continue to process and issue ordinary visas for Japanese citizens who wish to visit China, the Embassy said in a statement.

This month, China stopped issuing visas to Japanese citizens after Japan tightened Covid-19-related border control rules for travelers arriving directly from China.

Japan has protested the suspension of visas for Japanese citizens and asked Beijing to reverse its decision.
